Our towers are low mass composite structures that have had full-scale impact testing to verity frangibility with no break-away points needed.
Only low mass components disintegrate at impact causing no secondary hazard to the aircraft.
Features:
Transparent to electromagnetic signals; Available in 10ft lengths up to 60m.
Easy installation; Maintenance free
FRANGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Any approach lighting structure required to be frangible should be designed to withstand wind loads (static and operational/survival) but has the ability to break away when a collision occurs. The structure will break, distort of yield without imposing maximum force or energy.
Design, Rigidity & Weight
Our towers are made from high strength, corrosive resistant aluminum. The frame is a lattice structure and they have many innovative technical details in their construction making the mast lightweight but very rigid.
Millard Towers have an excellent strength / weight ratio. Even in strong winds and heavy ice-loads, there will be very limited movement that could cause the lighting on the tower to fluctuate. The construction strength can be increased if the wind speed at your airport is unusually high.
