Airport Safety Masts

Millard airport approach towers are frangible. They are engineered to be fully rigid when they need to be but safely collapse if accidentally struck by a plane. There have been at least two incidents at Canadian airports in which Millard towers saved lives. Millard towers are non-corrosive and stand up to high winds and extreme icing. A patented design creates a hinging effect between the towers vertical supports and its lattices, which upon forceful impact, allows the tower to buckle in the direction of the impacting aircraft, so the plane can fly safely over it. Millard aviation towers can be used to support approach lighting, Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and Glide Path Antenna.

Millard approach light towers are used to support elevated approach lighting systems in areas where they may be impacted by aircraft. The patented design is fully rigid when needed to sustain heavy wind and ice loads, but also are made to be frangible and collapse upon accidental impact of an aircraft. The design is made to be of minimum mass and is virtually maintenance free.

Millard Instrument Landing System (ILS) towers are used to support elevated ILS Antennae structures. These towers are designed to yield the minimum deflection requirements of these key components while also maintaining frangibility. Our design offers full frangibility of the complete height and is not required to be mounted on a rigid steel structure.

Millard Glide Path Towers offer maximum rigidity needed for Glide Path Antenna while maintaining the required frangibility needed for the proximity to the runway. These towers are designed to support Glide Path Antennae for standard heights of 10m and 15m.
